STUFF I DID

The music and people I have been working with.

MOPED LOEWEN

Moped Loewen is a fusion of diverse ideas and influences, where jazz tradition meets creative madness, weaving utopian, lunar, and extraterrestrial visions into songs, sketches, and even home decor. The band’s "laboratory" character provides space for creativity and spontaneity, giving the music itself a deeper emotional weight. Founded by four classmates—Piotr Lipowicz, Ivar Krizic, Matheus Jardim, and Daniel Varga—at the University of Music and Performing Arts Graz, Moped Loewen started as a modern interpretation of all the music they loved. Later, Daniel took the lead, writing and arranging for larger ensembles, which evolved into the Jazz Rock Orchestra. This led to the production of their last record, Book of Navi, a deeply personal album reflecting Daniel’s relationship with God and religion.

As the band grew larger and more international, it became difficult to continue, and they have been inactive since 2022.

daniel varga eastern european quartet

The Eastern European Quartet was born from the Hungarian-Polish-Croatian brotherhood and friendship. Piotr, Ivar, and Daniel have been studying and playing together at their university, and they formed a band with their longtime friend and drummer, Piotr Budniak. The band primarily performed compositions by Daniel.

“I would categorize the album's material as modern mainstream, seasoned with some free jazz influences. Of course, the sense of freedom is a defining characteristic of the entire work, alongside the artists' virtuosity, professionalism, and sensitivity. As I progressed through the songs, I increasingly felt that, although I was listening to difficult music in a good sense, it still relaxed me. As much as it raises my blood pressure, it equally places me in a meditative state with the "Eastern European Quartet." - jazzma

MODERN ART ORCHESTRA PLAYS THE MUSIC
OF DANIEL VARGA

Since I was a saxophone player, I often played in orchestras or big bands and started writing music for orchestras at a young age. During my studies, I had the chance to dive deeply into arranging and composing for this genre. Modern Art Orchestra and Kornél Fekete-Kovács gave me the opportunity to record my own compositions with the fantastic singer Veronika Harcsa, so I took it—and that’s how this record came to be.
